Although it is thought that the Virginia Opossum’s only Canadian population is south of Hamilton, Ontario, there have been unconfirmed reports of opossums living in the rest of southern and central Ontario and even as far north as Montreal, Quebec. Many people who have seen possums north of Hamilton in Ontario and Quebec are unaware of zoologist’s incredulous opinion on them, and because of this, there is almost no attention given to them by witnesses. The citizen science project and social network, Inaturalist, has dozens sightings since 2010, as recently as January of 2020. Known species out of their excepted range, such as these opossums, are some of the most seen and well photographed cryptids, probably with hundreds of clear photos, specimens and roadkill that are only unaccepted because of simply slipping through the cracks of encyclopedias and academic papers.
